Tap Chan’s practice spans installation, sculpture, and video. Probing themes of nature with human intervention, cosmology and the passage of time, she often incorporates with captive memories related to one’s homeland. Always inspired by scientific theories such as wormholes and quantum mechanics, Chan explores liminality and duality embedded in daily life, frequently juxtaposing pairs of objects in a single setting. Her works evoke an active meditation on the multifaceted nature of the cosmos, bringing together both macro and micro universes through metaphors, fantasies, and imagination. She is also interested in the notion of Kekkai, the force field and invisible boundaries between humans and architectural spaces.
Chan received her BFA in Sculpture from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2012 and an MA in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014. The artist currently lives and works in Hong Kong.
