Where there is Honey, there is Home / 2025

Solo Exhibition - Fabric of Belonging. Installation View

The exhibition Fabric of Belonging weaves the notion of diasporic life through modular sculptures and installations. It captures the imagination of journeys to distant galaxies and the disorientation that accompanies being lost, all enveloped in a deep longing for escape. Amidst this voyage, there is a persistent hope for rebuilding home, echoing the resilience and industrious spirit of bees.

The vertical sculpture merges elements of natural and urban environments, with each layer inspired by the “spacer bars” commonly used in construction as structural reinforcements for concrete foundations. The modular nature of these spacer bars symbolizes the concept of a movable home—flexible, adaptable, and capable of being reassembled—much like the way bees build, abandon, and rebuild their hives in response to changing circumstances.

Drawing inspiration from apiaries, the artwork incorporates organic beeswax—the very material bees use to build their homes. By integrating this natural substance into an urban architectural element, the piece explores the symbolic relationship between the organic and the artificial. It invites reflection on the interconnectedness of humans and nature, highlighting both the bees’ remarkable ability to rebuild colonies and the inherent mobility and adaptability of human habitats.
