Twofold Consciousness / 2020

Household Gods - Curated by Ying Kwok

Twofold Consciousness is a sculptural series in which transformed headboards stand as urban monuments to sleepless nights. Each piece is the mirror image of its counterpart, evoking a sense of uncanniness and invoking the concept of a mirror universe.  A fluorescent green halo softly reflects on the surrounding walls, casting an otherworldly glow that highlights the sacredness of sleep as a fragile, liminal space. This luminous halo accentuates the mysterious threshold between wakefulness and rest, emphasizing the reverence and vulnerability inherent in our nightly surrender. The interplay—entangling and disentangling—between corporeal and virtual existence probes the ambiguous boundaries and blurred realities that lie between them.
