Their Sun : Our Sun / 2025
Solo Exhibition - Fabric of Belonging. Installation View
As the sun stands as the central force at the heart of our galaxy, the suns depicted in this work evoke the imagination soaring between galaxies. This concept is rooted in the scientific theory of wormholes, which propose the possibility of traversing vast cosmic distances through these theoretical tunnels in spacetime. Simultaneously, the pursuit of other suns serves as a metaphor for the migratory journeys of friends, family, and communities, reflecting the human condition of seeking new homes and lives across different latitudes around the globe.
The sculptural piece itself consists of six modular forms, each shaped to mimic the structure of a wormhole. By assembling these wormhole-like modules into a cohesive whole, the work visually embodies the immense migrations and displacements that have shaped human history. The inner surfaces of the modules are gilded with 24-karat gold leaf, a material celebrated for its durability and permanence, while the outer shells are crafted from an iron composite designed to rust gradually over time.
In this interplay between the enduring and the ephemeral, the sculpture invites us to reflect on the resilience and vulnerability inherent in all journeys. It stands as a testament to the continuous search for belonging—across galaxies and within the human spirit.
