Liquid Memory / 2025
Solo Exhibition - Fabric of Belonging. Installation View

The Chinese idiom, Drink water and remember its source, reminds us to never forget where we truly come from.
Water on Earth is part of a continuous cycle, flowing through time and living beings. Scientists say we are essentially drinking water that once passed through dinosaurs, highlighting how this liquid connects past and present. According to some studies, water may have originated from extraterrestrial meteorites, making it a timeless vessel carrying the memory of life itself.
This concept inspired the artwork Liquid Memory which features drinking vessels—such as cha chan teng cups, kung fu tea jade cups, and bottled water—interconnected by a winding green pipe that channels water in a gentle, flowing rhythm. The movement and sound of the water activate the piece, evoking the continuous flow and memory carried within this essential element.
Liquid memory not only holds traces of the past but also points toward a future where data storage could harness the unique properties of liquids. Echoing the exhibition title Fabric of Belonging, it reflects how water weaves us together. Like threads in a fabric, and structure of a system, water connects all living things and histories, grounding us in a shared sense of belonging to the Earth and to one another.
