999 Light Years features five light boxes designed to resemble tilted exit signs, positioned near "Their Sun: Our Sun." Each box emits vibrant colours that capture the enchanting hues of twilight—the fleeting moments just after sunset. A green light streak across the boxes symbolises a meteor soaring through the sky.
A meteor, like a stroke painted on the cosmic tapestry that hang over the night sky, signifies the passage of time, having arrived in our vision after millions of years. This celestial phenomenon has two sides of meaning: one symbolises unpredictability and sinisterness, while the other embodies a sense of hope and wonder, inviting viewers to reflect on the vastness of the universe and our place within it.
